Fate And Flesh
Upon the skin on his weary back,
With my hands I mimic the rushing tides within me,
Entangled in my heart so weary of fear that claws and cracks,
From the inevitable death that comes for us all like the fate of the words in galilee…
The fate of being human rattles and rusts in my head like tin,
So lets tinker the toys within our childhoods brightest parts now past,
Bring back the joy that came without a drop of gin,
Let not sorrow or ache drown us deep in storms now passed…
Warmth in fingers like a furnace ever burning,
Gold gleaming beneath soil brown eyes,
I'll cherish and love you more than I'm concerning,
Through this love, we prove ourselves fools turning to wise…

My poem “Fate And Flesh”, captures a deep reflection on love, mortality, and resilience. In this piece, I wanted to explore the weight of being human, the inevitability of death, and how love… through all its silliness and wisdom… helps us bear that burden. I was inspired to contrast innocence and loss, as if trying to capture what it feels like to reclaim joy from a time when life was simple and untouched by sorrow.
When I wrote “With my hands I mimic the rushing tides within me,” I wanted to convey the powerful, raw emotions that lie just beneath the surface, often invisible to others but churning inside me.
My heart wrestles with fear and loss, like “tin that rattles and rusts,” and yet, amid that vulnerability, I’m driven to hold on to warmth, to love fiercely despite all that might go wrong.
The lines about “toys within our childhoods’ brightest parts” reflect a yearning to find the unburdened happiness that we once had, a plea to not let life’s storms drown us entirely.
Basically, I aimed to capture how, through love, we turn our fears into wisdom, proving that even in our foolishness, there’s a strength and beauty worth cherishing despite the inevitable of death and sorrow in life. A strength and beauty that’s truly human. Which is OK to accept and surrender to, to truly live. Being human.
